GUWAHATI, Sept 12 - The All Assam Gaon Panchayat Coordinators Association today urged the Chief Minister to address its long-pending grievances including poor salary and job security.
In a memorandum to the Chief Minister, the association said that the GP coordinators despite rendering their services with full commitment in diverse spheres of governance, have been getting a raw deal from the authorities.
�This is reflected in our abysmal pay structure which is below even the minimum wage fixed by the Labour Commission under the Labour Act. Our yearly increments have been nominal and we do not have other perks and benefits like PF, TA, medical coverage, etc.,�
it said.
Pointing out that the coordinators have been engaged in additional works besides their mandated activities, the association said that despite their repeated pleas for better salary, job conditions and job security, the appeals have fallen on deaf ears.
�We are all graduate contractual employees and we need a decent salary to make both ends meet. Despite poor remuneration and job conditions we have been discharging our duties diligently and honestly. This is reflected in the fact that Assam was adjudged the best performing state in PMAY-G implementation where we had a big role to play,� it added.
The association will be staging a non-cooperation stir from September 15 onwards unless its grievances are redressed. Copies of its memorandum have also been submitted to the CEO of Kamrup Zila Parishad and the DRDA Project Director, Kamrup.
