Gaon Burhas issue instructions to stem influx into Nagaland

By CORRESPONDENT

DIMAPUR, Aug 3 - The Gaon Burhas Union (Sadar) and Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation on Friday have issued a new set of instructions for all Gaon Burhas (village headmen) and chairmen of colonies under Dimapur municipal area to stem possible influx of illegal immigrants from Assam following publication of the final draft NRC on July 30.

At a consultative meeting held here, both the organisations discussed effective implementation of the order issued by Dimapur Deputy Commissioner to strictly monitor influx of people from outside the State. The DC issued the order following a directive by the State Home Secretary to all concerned, especially village and colony authorities, in this connection.

The organisations also asked the members to conduct census of all existing tenants from outside the State, besides directing house owners not to allot space to any new tenant without the consent and approval of the colony council and GBs.

They further asked GBs and colony chairmen to conduct verification drive from time to time to ensure that unregistered tenants were not given shelter.

The organisations also asked the colony authorities not to issue any no objection certificate to outsiders of suspected origin and also directed them to immediately report to the authorities concerned about any influx or suspicious activity in conformity with the Home departments directives.

The meeting also directed all GBs and colony chairmen to convene meetings of colony councils and GBs within two weeks and sensitise colony leaders about the directive of the Home department.
