GAURIPUR, July 27 - The flood situation in the entire Dhubri district continues to be grim as non-stop rains lashed the district for the last several days.
The overflowing water of the Gangadhar river has already snapped away a large portion of the Dhubri-Kachugaon road at Kumarganj under Golakganj LAC causing hardships to the neighbouring villages.
Alokjhari, Kumarganj, Paglahat, Jaldoba and some other adjoining areas are reeling under floodwater causing extensive damages to the human habitation and agricultural fields. Besides these areas, Lohajani, Kaimari, Naisa, Pub Kanuri, Ratiadaha under Agomani circle have also been badly affected.
The agricultural fields of these areas are submerged by the rising water of the Gangadhar river and jute cultivation has also been seriously damaged.
In the Gauripur constituency, the Gadadhar river and the river Brahmaputra have been flowing above danger mark and vast areas like Asharikandi, Geramari, Falimari, Beguntali, Baladmara, North Geramari, Alamganj etc., are under flood and some people are seen taking shelter on the NH-31. The condition of the animals is worse and are facing hardships for fodder, vast areas under Rupshi Block remain submerged by the rising water of the Gadadhar river and affected vegetables fields. The situation has since been deteriorating as there is little hope of improvement of weather in the days to come.
