Gandhi Jayanti observed in Arunachal

ITANAGAR, Oct 2 - Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (retd) and Chief Minister Pema Khandu today led the people of the State to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti, commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

A number of events were organised across the State to mark the occasion. A huge public function was held at the Indira Gandhi Park here.

The Governor, along with the Chief Minister, unveiled a life-sized statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Gandhi Udyan, Niti Vihar.

The Governor also flagged off the �Fit India Plogging Run� from the Raj Bhavan here. A large number of schoolchildren, ITBP jawans and sports enthusiasts participated in the run.

A marble bust of Gandhi was also installed in the Gandhi Hall of the Raj Bhavan. Chief Minister Khandu and his deputy, Chowna Mein, unveiled the bust in the presence of the Governor and his wife, Neelam Misra.

Earlier, the Itanagar Municipal Council, in collaboration with the district administration, Itanagar Capital Complex, organised �Shramdaan� at the Indira Gandhi Park. The Chief Minister, other ministers, MLAs, Chief Secretary, DGP and senior officers took part in a plastic waste disposal programme.

The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee also organised a padyatra in the State capital to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti.
