Gandhi Jayanti celebrated in Manipur

IMPHAL, Oct 2 - Along with the rest of the country, Gandhi Jayanti was also celebrated in Manipur today. Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh paid floral tribute to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Memorial Hall here this morning. Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar, Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, the Chief Secretary, the DGP and other senior officials also offered tributes to the Father of the Nation.

The Chief Minister also flagged off �India Cycle4Change Challenge� at the City Convention Center at Palace Gate here. The objective of the cycle rally was to spread the principles and ideals of Gandhi among the people of the State. The cycle rally covered different parts of Imphal city.

Speaking to reporters, the Chief Minister appealed to the people of the State to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti and National Cleanliness Day 2020. He remembered the Father of the Nation for his struggle to free the nation from the clutches of British colonialism.

He mentioned that recognising his philosophy of �Ahimsa�, International Day of Non-Violence is observed under the aegis of the United Nations across the world.

Later, the Chief Minister along with Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Letpao Haokip and Minister for Social Welfare Okram Henry inspected the upcoming COVID Care Centre which is being set up at Bal Bhawan in the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.

During the visit, the furniture and other amenities, including toilet facilities, at the upcoming COVID Care Centre were inspected by the Chief Minister.
