GUWAHATI, July 31 - The 74th birthday of �Ganashilpi� Khagen Mahanta will be observed as �Ganagitor Din� � a day for the people�s song � on August 17 by Panchasur in association with the Directorate of Culture, Assam.
An elaborate programme has been chalked out to pay befitting tribute to the artiste of the masses. Like the previous years, a folk artiste would be given a financial assistance of Rs 10,000 in the memory of Kaliram Bora by Folkbeats. This time folk artiste Kulen Bora of Sonitpur district has been chosen for the financial assistance and felicitation.
A state-level singing competition on songs of Khagen Mahanta will also be organised at Rabindra Bhawan from 10 am, stated a press statement.
