SILCHAR, Dec 9 - Members of the Proactive Senior Citizens Forum have drawn the attention of Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, to the delay in completion of the Silchar-Saurashtra national corridor, a signature project of former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee.
In a letter to the Union Minister, Prof Dilip Kumar Dey, general secretary of the forum, said, A portion of a 39 km stretch falling in Cachar and Dima Hasao districts of Assam has remained incomplete due to reasons best known to the department. No Objection Certificate (NOC) was said to be obtained from the Department of Forest and Environment (Green Channel) under the State Government and all concerned.
The delay in completion of the project is causing great inconvenience to the people and it is showing great disrespect to Vajpayee as well, the members said in the letter.
The senior citizens alleged that there is lack of sincerity at all levels, red-tapism is prevalent and modern construction technology is not being used in the project.
The forum urged the Minister to solve the problems quickly and take appropriate action to complete the remaining part scientifically, within this dry season itself.
