Gadkari moves PM over Manipur situation

By SPL CORRESPONDENT

NEW DELHI, Dec 25 The Centre is under pressure to act in Manipur, with the BJP on Tuesday demanding Central intervention in the State to restore the rule of law.

BJP national president, Nitin Gadkari shot off a letter to the Prime Minister, expressing his displeasure over the role of the State Government in handling the situation, in which two persons including a journalist have been killed and over 15 persons injured in police firing.

We demand immediate intervention of Government of India with a direction to Manipur Government to take appropriate steps to save the situation from getting out of hand, Gadkari said in his letter that was released to the media.

Manipur is witnessing a massive public outrage over the December 18 incident, when an actress was allegedly assaulted by a self-styled colonel of the NSCN (I-M).

Stating that agitation in the State is continuing and the growing number of incidents indicates the failure of the State Government in controlling the situation. The delay in bringing the culprits to book has further aggravated the situation, he said.
