GUWAHATI, April 25 - The Government of Assam, as committed, has released an amount of Rs 40 lakh for 56 athletes and coaches for higher training.
Informing this in a press release today, Lakhya Konwar, Member Secretary of the State Level Advisory Committee for Students and Youth Welfare, Govt of Assam said Rs 73 lakh has been released for the 106 medal winning athletes in the last Khelo India Youth Games held here.
Konwar further stated that Rs 1.25 crore has been awarded to 20 leading sportspersons of the State, including Lovlina Borgohain and Jamuna Boro under the State Government�s Sports Policy.
On the other hand sportspersons like Tania Chodhury (lawn bowl), Shivangi Sharma (swimming), Upasana Talukdar (athletics) have donated Rs 10,000 each for the Chief Minister�s Relief Fund through Lakhya Konwar.
