Fuel adulteration racket busted in Dimapur

DIMAPUR, July 17 - Dimapur Police have arrested 12 persons in connection with a fuel adulteration racket here.

Dimapur Police, in a release, said, following the seizure of a huge quantity of illegally stored hydrocarbons and assets from six locations spread across Dimapur on June 27, criminal cases were registered at Diphupar and West Police stations.

Accordingly, fuel samples which were collected from the storages in these sites and from all retail outlets suspected of dispensing adulterated fuels were sent to Forensic Science Laboratory for chemical analysis and to ascertain their nature and qualities, the release said.

Later, the operators of the raided sites were identified and 12 persons were arrested. They have been identified as Srikant Jaiswal, Dinanath Prasad, Noval Ray, Umesh Yadav, Ajay Prasad, Amar Choudhury, Mona Prasad, Mani Das, Ram Prasad Rai, Suresh Singh, Amarendra Kumar Singh and Prem Prasad, the release said.

A petrol pump located at Chumukedima was also sealed in the interest of the investigation. Meanwhile, Dimapur Police while assuring that investigation was in full swing sought the support and cooperation of all concerned. It also warned of legal prosecution against any person or agencies attempting to hamper the investigation process.

The Police Headquarters has also constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by IGP (Range) to upgrade the level and broaden the scope of investigations.
