Front office of Legal Services Authority inaugurated

GUWAHATI, May 11 - The front office of District Legal Services Authority, Kamrup (M) was inaugurated today by Justice N Kotiswar Singh of Gauhati High Court in the presence of Aparesh Chakravarty, District & Sessions Judge Kamrup (M)-cum-Chairman DLSA, Kamrup (M) and Mridul Kumar Kalita, Registrar (Vigilance)-cum-Secretary, High Court Legal Services Committee, Gauhati High Court.

The programme was also attended by judicial officials of Kamrup (M) district, members of the bar associations of Kamrup (M), legal aid counsels of DLSA Kamrup (M), para-legal volunteers of DLSA Kamrup (M), law students and others.

In his inaugural speech Justice Singh said the main objective of the Legal Services Authority is to provide free and competent legal services to weaker and marginalised sections of society.

�The front office is one of the units of the entire framework to render such services. Front office means a room in the legal services institution where legal services are made available. It is imperative to make the front office efficient and effective so that quality and meaningful legal services are rendered to the visitors and legal aid seekers,� he said.

Jyotshna Das, Secretary, DLSA Kamrup (M) offered the vote of thanks.

After the programme, the State Lok Adalat for petty offences, criminal compoundable cases, MACT cases and family matters was held in different courts of Kamrup (M) for disposal of pending cases before the respective courts.
