Friendship Day request to GNLA chief

By Biplab Kr Dey

TURA, Aug 2 - The chairman of the disbanded ANVC (B), Bernard Marak (Rimpu) on the occasion of Friendship Day today, has urged the chief of the Garo National Liberation Army, Sohan D Shira to come and join the mainstream for the sake of peace and prosperity of Garo Hills.

Acknowledging that the two did not always see eye to eye on most things, Rimpu felt that life and death had made a difference to all within the Garo Hills region. It compels me to consider the present situation in Garo Hills where youths die young. Life and death have made much difference to all here. I want to look towards better life to all more dearly to those who are living at the edge. This includes Sohan Shira, said Marak.

I want to extend my hand to Sohan D Shira. We have not been close acquaintances but for peace in Garo Hills I urge him to come forward and join the mainstream said Marak adding that the fight can be carried on through peaceful democratic means. Rimpu further felt that peace could only materialise through a joint effort as well as the fact that people required a leader like him to fight for them.
