JORHAT, Jan 3 - Majuli Deputy Commissioner Debaprasad Misra recently launched the distribution of free textbooks for the new academic year among the students of the lower and upper primary schools of Majuli district.
Attending the district level inaugural distribution function as the chief guest, Misra formally handed over free textbooks to few students belonging to �Ko Shreni� to class-VIII. The book distribution function was held on the office campus of the Block Elementary Education Officer at Kamalabari here.
Assistant Commissioner and Block Elementary Education Officer (in-charge) Achyut Baruah, District Information and Public Relations Officer (in-charge) Rajendra Baruah, president and office-bearers of Zila Prathomik Sikshyak Sanmilani, vice-president of Majuli unit of AASU, school headmasters, teachers and senior citizens attended the function.
In Majuli district, a total of 1,39,816 free textbooks (of 41 subjects covering nine classes from �Ko Shreni� to class-VIII) will be distributed among 31,355 students of 791 lower and upper primary schools in due course of time. In his address, Misra urged the students to sincerely pursue their studies and excel in life and become responsible citizens.
