Free saplings distributed among Golakganj residents

GAURIPUR, June 7 - Under the auspices of the District Forest Department, the World Environment Day was observed at Sankardev Shishu Vidya Niketon at Golakganj on June 5 last with a day-long programme.

An awareness meet was also organised and Biswajit Roy, District Forest Officer of Dhubri explained the purpose of the meet. Deputy Commissioner Anantalal Gyani and Golakganj MLA Ashwini Roy attended the meeting as guests.

In their speeches, they urged upon the people to help minimise air pollution by planting saplings of valuable trees in their respective areas. The meeting was attended by the students and teachers of the Niketon along with members of the local public. Saplings of fruits trees were planted in and around the Niketon and free saplings were also distributed. The meeting on the occasion was chaired by PK Roy.

A group of youths, including Buddhadev Adhikary, Abhijit Baruah, Kausik Acharjee, Eptiraj Basumatary and Rashmindev Roy of Seuji Prithibi, Gauripur distributed saplings among the people of the locality. The team was assisted by Officer Incharge Satyajit Borthakur of Gauripur Police Station. They also distributed saplings among the drivers of the trucks plying through NH-31 and requested them to control the speed of their vehicles.
