Free heart check-up camp

GUWAHATI, Aug 4 - The city-based Hayat Hospital, in association with Medanta, the Medicity, Gurgaon, organised a free heart check-up camp at its campus here today. The hospital has also a tie-up with Medanta to perform congenital heart surgeries.

A team of doctors, led by Dr Munesh Tomar, director, Paediatric Cardiology, and Dr Kartikey Bhargav, senior consultant, Clinical Cardiology of Medanta, conducted the health check-up of patients. Apart from the free examination of members of the public, journalists from the print and electronic media, along with their family members, will be given special preference on doctors� consultation and a discount of 75 per cent will be provided to the scribes.

A �Meet the Press� programme was organised after the event. The vice president of Medanta, Rajiv Misra interacted with the media persons. Dr Munesh Tomar and Dr Kartikey Bhargav stressed on some aspects when a patient is suffering from cardiac problems. They also pointed out that a large number of patients from the North East go for treatment outside the State due to the lack of modern facilities in this part of the country. They also talked about the movement of doctors and nurses.

The lack of latest diagnostic equipment is also a problem in the State. So Medanta has decided to set up a permanent base here for the benefit of the patients of the North Eastern States. The tie-up with Hayat Hospital will also help doctors from this part of the country to undergo training at Medanta and perform complex heart surgeries in Guwahati itself, stated a press release.

Rajiv Misra, vice president, Marketing, Medanta, told this correspondent that they would also organise awareness camps all over the North Eastern States so that the people can know about congenital heart diseases.
