Free healthcare centre for advocates

GUWAHATI, July 22 - A free healthcare centre was inaugurated on Monday on the office premises of the Lawyers� Association, Guwahati (LAG), by Gauhati High Court judge Biplab Kumar Sarma.

The permanent health centre, a long-standing demand of the advocates� community, will not just provide primary medical help to advocates and other staff members of the CJM Court, but also the common people who want to avail of the benefits at the healthcare facility.

The District and Sessions Judge of Kamrup (Metro), Ajit Borthakur, members of the Chief Judicial Magistrate�s office and the LAG were also present in the inaugural event.

�The healthcare centre, now located at the LAG office, will be shifted to a permanent location after the construction of necessary infrastructure for the purpose. Even litigants and common people will benefit from this centre,� said Benudhar Nath, general secretary of the LAG.

�Apart from first aid, other primary healthcare facilities like free medicines, blood pressure and blood sugar tests will be available for the people at this centre. A medical officer, nurse and assistant will be here to assist the people,� he added.
