Free eye camp held

GUWAHATI, Feb 24 - The Uttar Noonmati Kali Mandir and Kamrup (Metro) district unit of the National Programme for Control of Blindness jointly organised a free eye camp in Uttar Noonmati area today, said a press release here.

Kamrup (Metro) district manager of the National Programme for Control of Blindness Dr Lalita Ronghangpi and eye specialist Dr Rejiana Sultana Ahmed examined around 300 patients. Optometrists Monoranjan Dutta, Kiran Mahanta and Nava Bhatta assisted them.

Of the patients examined at the camp, 153 were found to be suffering from various vision-related problems and they would be provided free spectacles by the organisers of the camp at 11 am on March 4 at the Uttar Noonmati Kali Mandir.

Another 23 patients were found to be suffering from cataract-related blurred vision. The organisers would arrange free surgeries for them to correct their vision at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, Sankaradeva Nethralaya and Lions Eye Hospital. The organisers supplied medicines also to the patients.

The camp was inaugurated by former Deputy Mayor of Guwahati Soumen Deka at a function anchored by Tilendra Mahanta.
