TEZPUR, June 15 - Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma today inaugurated an MRI unit and free dialysis centre at the Tezpur Medical College and Hospital, Bihaguri (Tumuki) in Sonitpur district. The minister also inaugurated another free dialysis centre at Kanaklata Civil Hospital. Inaugurating both the centres, the Minister said that very shortly the PG course will be introduced in the Medical College and the extended part of the Gynaecology department of Kanaklata Civil Hospital in Porwa Chariali will be inaugurated which will minimise the load on the TMC and Kanaklata Civil Hospitals.
Inaugurating the big budget project costing Rs 10 crore 8 lakh and 11 thousand, he also said that now all the medical colleges of the State are now well equipped with necessary equipment to benefit the poorer sections of the society.
In both the programmes, Minister Piyush Hazarika, Tezpur MP, Pallab Lochan Das, Barchala MLA, Ganesh Limbu and Dhekiajuli MLA, Ashok Singhal were also present. The programme was conducted by the Principal, TMC, Prof RK Kalita.
Our Mangaldai Correspondent adds: Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, State Minister for Health and Family Welfare on Saturday inaugurated the Prime Minister National Free Dialysis Scheme at the Mangaldai Civil Hospital.
In connection with the inaugural ceremony, a public function was organised at the campus of the 100-bed Maternal and Child Care Hospital under the district hospital. Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, Dr Sarma said that the scheme is effective in the country since 2016, but it couldn�t be launched in the State due to some inconvenience. He stated that the scheme has been implemented under the supervision of the Apollo Hospital, New Delhi and the government will have to bear an expenditure of Rs 1296 against each dialysis performed. Ninety per cent of the this cost will be borne by the Central government while the remaining ten per cent is the State share. It may be mentioned here that Mangaldai Civil Hospital is among the eight government hospitals where the scheme has been launched in the first phase. The scheme will cover another ten hospitals in the next phase.
Earlier, Dr Sarma visiting the hospital expressed serious concern over the plight of the indoor patients of the maternity ward of the hospital as many of them were lying on the floor due to lack of necessary beds and he assured the hospital authority to provide 100 new beds. It is worth mentioning that the indoor child ward of the hospital has also been facing acute shortage of beds, even though a few beds were recently arranged locally at the initiative of the hospital Superintendent and medical officers of the ward concerned.
