Fraudsters nabbed at Nowboisa

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, April 22 - In a case of surfacing of illicit trade in fake gold and counterfeiting currencies at regular intervals in Lakhimpur district�s infamous Nowboisa region, police arrested two fraudsters on Saturday at Mohghuli village of Sonapur under Nowboisa Police Station.

According to information available, the fraudsters were arrested while they were trying to sell a fake gold statue to two customers hailing from West Bengal.

It may be mentioned here that the prospective customers were lured by the fraudsters through phone calls by promising them gold at much cheaper price than the prevailing market rate.

As the two prospective buyers arrived at Doolahat Tiniali on Saturday and were bargaining with the sellers, police, who were already lying in wait, pounced upon the unsuspecting fraudster duo and arrested them along with a fake gold statue. Those arrested were identified as Shamsul Haq and Rajibul Ali.

The buyers, who were also arrested, have since been identified as Uttam Kumar Ghosh and Mitu Das from Cooch Behar respectively.
