Fraud duping patients at GMCH

GUWAHATI, Aug 13 - A fraud has been duping patients at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital by collecting money from them on the pretext of allotting them seats in the ICU, etc.

An incident came to light on Wednesday when a patient�s attendant approached the GMCH superintendent Abhijit Sarma seeking his help.

�A fraud was demanding Rs 10,000 from her to allot an ICU seat for her mother, who was admitted to the general ward of the hospital and was waiting for surgery. He also demanded that the money be fast-tracked. This person is duping innocent patients in the name of allotting ICU or paying cabin, and giving dates for surgery at GMCH by demanding money,� said Sarma adding that an FIR has been lodged at the Bhangagarh Police Station in this regard.

The hospital authority with the help of the attendant identified the fraud in the CCTV footage and shared his image with the police.
