Fraud accused nabbed by CBI

SHILLONG, May 9 - After seven years of hunt, an accused in a fraud case here was nabbed by the CBI from Bihar�s Madhubani district.

The accused identified as Raj Narayan Rai was brought here from Bihar on transit remand by the CBI team and produced before a court which remanded him in eight days of CBI custody.

Rai was wanted for fraudulently withdrawing Rs 60 lakh from an account of the BSNL, Shillong. Rai along with three other accomplices (still at large) forged signatures and used forged cheques to withdraw the amount in 2012.

The withdrawn amount was diverted to nine bank accounts of nationalised banks in WB, New Delhi and Andhra Pradesh. The accused opened all the nine bank accounts with fake documents. The CBI had earlier charge-sheeted just one accused Sanjeev Kumar Rai of Bihar and had also arrested another accused Bidyut Sarkar of Kolkata.
