GUWAHATI, May 10 � The Salesian Provincial of Guwahati province, Fr VM Thomas (Vattathara) has been re-elected the national president of the CRI for a second time, a press release stated.
The election was held on May 3 in Bengaluru. About 550 Superiors General and provincials of various congregations re-elected him for a three-year term. The Conference of Religious India (CRI) has a total of 334 congregations and 822 major superiors representing over 125,000 Catholic religious brothers, priests and nuns in India. Most of the schools, hospitals, social service centres and other institutions of the Catholic church are managed by this group.
Almost 33 years ago, another Salesian provincial of Guwahati province, late Bishop Mathai Kochuparampil was elected CRI national president.
