Four test positive for COVID-19 in Dhemaji

DHEMAJI, May 25 - For the first time, altogether 4 persons in Dhemaji district who returned from outside Assam and were under quarantine here, tested positive for COVID-19.

They have been identified as Nilmoni Borgohain of Bordalani Dihingia gaon, Gyanjyoti Konch of Chamarajan Ratua, Prabin Mili of Gogamukh Edut and Abhijan Deori of Shripani Deori village.

According to sources, all these four persons working in Chennai started their journey from Chennai to Dhemaji on May 19 by the same train and reached Dibrugarh Railway Station on May 22 from where they were carefully brought to Dhemaji and kept under quarantine at the ITBT, Telijan.

Dhemaji Deputy Commissioner Narsing Pawar today informed mediapersons here that the medical team saw some symptoms in Nilmoni during the time of blood and swab collection in the quarantine centre and hence, he was immediately shifted to the isolation ward of Dhemaji Civil Hospital. Later, his swab sample which was sent to ICMR, Lahowal, Dibrugarh tested COVID-19 positive last night. The swab test results of the other three persons also came COVID-19 positive today, DC informed.

Dhemaji DC, while addressing mediapersons said that the people of Dhemaji should not panic over the detection of coronavirus at Dhemaji as these COVID-19 infected persons are not presently residing in the State and have been staying outside Assam for a long period of time for job. He also said that the medical team and police of Dhemaji are unitedly working in the fight against COVID-19. He further called upon all the people of Dhemaji district to maintain strict social distancing in every sphere of day-to-day life during the ongoing lockdown in a bid to check the spread of the dreaded pandemic.
