JORHAT, July 16 - Symptoms of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) have been spotted today in four children who were admitted to the pediatric care unit of Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH).

Officials concerned said that the symptomatic patients belong to different rural areas of Teok, Majuli, Dergaon and Komargaon (Golaghat).

According to State Health and Family Welfare Departments officials, 14 cases of JE have been confirmed in Jorhat district. Four among them have died in the JMCH this year. Now we have provided treatment to 11 patients. Required samples of the four suspected cases have been sent for pathological examination, said a senior doctor of JMCH.

Although district-level Health Department officials have claimed that the vaccination drive has given better results in reducing the cases of JE, many senior citizens of Jorhat alleged that they are yet to witness the desired rate of success.
