Four sentenced in Nido Tania murder case

NEW DELHI, Sept 7 - A court at Saket here has convicted four persons accused in the killing of Arunachal Pradesh student Nido Tania on January 29, 2014.

CBI sources said that the Saket court has sentenced accused Farman to undergo 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on him. On the other hand, two other accused, Pawan and Sunder, have been sentenced to seven years� RI and fined Rs 20,000 each, and Sunny Uppal to three years� RI with a fine of Rs 20,000.

The CBI had registered the sensational Nido Tania murder case on February 28, 2014, on the orders of the Government of India. The case was also registered by the Delhi Police earlier.

It was alleged that the victim, the son of a then MLA of Arunachal Pradesh, was assaulted by a group of persons at Lajpat Nagar, Delhi, over a minor issue. He succumbed to his injuries on January 30, 2014.

Investigation revealed that Nido Tania had allegedly visited Lajpat Nagar along with his three friends, and had asked for directions to the house of a common friend from a few persons at Lajpat Nagar. At a paneer shop, Nido Tania was allegedly humiliated by the accused persons. It was further alleged that he was physically assaulted.

The investigation also revealed that seven persons, including three juveniles, were involved in the assault. A charge sheet against the four accused was filed in a designated court in Delhi. A report was also filed before the Juvenile Justice Board, Kingsway Camp, Delhi, against the three juveniles, said the CBI sources.
