Four names shortlisted for next DGP

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Nov 27 - The State government has recommended names of four senior IPS officers, including BJ Mahanta, Mukesh Agarwall and AK Cashyap to the UPSC to fill in the post of Director General of Assam Police.

The incumbent DGP Kuladhar Saikia, who was set to retire on August 30, is on a three-month extension.

The UPSC is expected to take a call on this in a day or two once they decide to sit for a meeting.

Sources, however, said that the toss-up would be primarily between Mukesh Agarwall and BJ Mahanta.

Although another senior IPS officer Tapan Deka was earlier considered as a frontrunner, sources said there is some technical issue that stands between him and the top post.

Nothing could be ruled out at the moment, sources added.
