Four more traders kidnapped in Garo Hills

TURA, June 25 � The kidnapping spree in the Garo Hills region continue with four more petty traders being kidnapped by suspected GNLA militants at about 7 am today.

The four were travelling together to the weekly bazaar near Dadenggre town, when armed militants abducted them from near Kantanagre, under Dadenggre Police Station. The police suspect the hand of the banned Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) in the kidnapping.

The four kidnapped traders have been identified as Gulu Sheikh, Shah Alom, Ajgar Ali and Musaddar Ali. Ajgar and Mussadar Ali are brothers. The four hailed from the village of Kaimbathapara, near Chibinang in West Garo Hills.

According to sources, the four had left early morning today from their home in Kaimbathapara, near Chibinang in a Mahindra pick-up vehicle and were on their way to the weekly market in Dadeng, to purchase betelnut for trade.

The four were stopped by armed militants and taken at gun point towards Dipogre.

The police have launched an operation to locate the four abducted traders.
