MANGALDAI, Aug 23 - Darrang Police today averted an attempted dacoity when they nabbed four members of a notorious gang of inter-district history-sheeters along with firearms and ammunition at Silbori under Dalgaon Police Station.
Police during routine frisking operation near Kopati under Silbori police outpost intercepted a Celerio car bearing registration number AS 12X 4696 moving towards Dalgaon.
The car was carrying four youths along with the driver. On suspicion, the police team searched the vehicle and found one .22 bore pistol, five rounds of live ammunition and a sharp weapon.
Police identified the passengers in the said vehicle as Abdul Hanif (32) of Gormuri Bongali Gaon, Ikramul Islam (27) and Habul Islam (25) both from Kathaludup village and Samsul Hussain (27) of Rongagarha village, all under Dhekiajuli Police Station in Sonitpur district.
Police suspect that the accused tried to sneak into the district with the motive of committing dacoity.
Sometime back, Silbori witnessed a gruesome incident of dacoity where the owner was seriously injured and cash, ornaments and other valuables were looted.
