Four file papers for Mangaldai seat

MANGALDAI, March 25 - On the penultimate day of filing of nominations for the 8 Mangaldai HPC on Monday, a total of four candidates filed their nomination papers before Darrang Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Darrang, Ghanashyam Dass.

The candidates included Dilip Saikia, nominated by the ruling BJP and its alliance, and Bhubaneswar Kalita, the candidate for Congress.

The other two candidates who filed their nominations are Pradip Kr Daimary of the United Peoples� Party Liberal (UPPL) and Biren Basak of the Bharatiya Gana Parisad (BGP).

State BJP president Ranjit Dass, State ministers Bhabesh Kalita and Rihan Daimary, along with MLAs of BJP and its allies AGP and BPF accompanied Dilip Saikia in his journey for filing of nomination.

Similarly, Dalgaon MLA Ilias Ali, former ministers Basanta Das, Dr Zoiinath Sarma were among the senior leaders who accompanied Bhubaneswar Kalita at the time of filing of nomination.

Earlier, both the candidates arrived at the Deputy Commissioner�s office with massive rallies of their respective party members and supporters.

Meanwhile, normal life in the district headquarters town, Mangaldai has been badly affected during the course of the nomination process due to severe traffic snarls created by the rallies.
