Four-day GU Inter-College Youth Festival concludes

JALUKBARI, Aug 28 - The four-day GU Inter-College Youth Festival concluded here today with pomp and gaiety. The youth festival was organised by Gauhati University in collaboration with the Post Graduate Students� Union to promote talent and culture.

Approximately 600 students and teachers from 62 colleges affiliated to GU attended the valedictory function. Around 2,000 people, including teachers and students, took part in the closing ceremony of the event.

The festival, which was inaugurated by Dr Mridul Hazarika, Vice-Chancellor, Gauhati University, on August 25, started with a cultural rally by the participants.

Dr Ranjan Kr Kakati, Director of Students Welfare, GU, hoisted the GU Sports Board flag. Dr Paramananda Rajbongshi, president of the Asam Sahitya Sabha, flagged off the cultural rally.

Folk and classical dance items remained the highlight of the first day of the programme. The best actor title was bagged by Deepjyoti Kalita from Nalbari College and the best actress title was bagged by Mousumi Das from Bajali College.

The second day of the festival witnessed performances in quiz, photography, painting, clay modelling, collage, Bishnu Rabha Geet, Parbati Prasad Baruah Sangeet, Bhupendra Sangeet, Jayanta Sangeet and Jyoti Sangeet.

The third day of the event witnessed participation in programmes like mime, skit, classical and folk dance, folk songs, group songs, Western songs, folk orchestra and poem recitation. The best singer title was bagged by Indrani Talukdar from Pragjyotish College.

The festival concluded today with a valedictory session in which Professor Hari Prasad Sarma, Rector, GU, Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi, Bhasha Bharati and Kuladhar Saikia, DGP, Assam, were present as guests.

The guest of the event awarded the certificates and prizes to the winners of various competitions.

The four-day festival concluded with the celebration of a cultural night.
