JORHAT, March 17 - Taking out a mass rally of more than 10,000 Congress workers and supporters Jorhat MLA Rana Goswami today filed his nomination papers to the Deputy Commissioner here and expected a sweeping victory in the ensuing Assembly poll.
BJP�s candidate for the Jorhat seat Hitendra Nath Goswami, LDP�s president and candidate for Jorhat constituency Prodyut Bora and Independent candidate Jiban Chandra Sarma also filed their nomination papers here today.
The mass rallies of thousands of party-members and supporters of both the Congress and BJP caught the attention of the passers-by and others at the town, that witnessed peaceful political campaigns across the city.
However, huge traffic congestions were witnessed at Barua Chariali, Nirmal Charialai and many other important locations of the city because of the rallies.
Asked about the vital issues for fighting the poll, BJP�s candidate Hitendra Nath Goswami replied that he would intensify campaign against the rampant corruption of Congress government.
He also said that serious problems like unemployment and lack of infrastructural development in the rural and urban areas of the constituency are his main concerns during this election.
�I am committed to solve the serious problems of the constituency if people send me to the Assembly. I hope people will cast a popular mandate in favour of the BJP in Jorhat,� he said.
However, Congress candidate Rana Goswami also said that creating job opportunities for the unemployed youths is his priority.
A jubilant Rana Goswami promised of doing his best for ushering in development in every nook and corner of the Jorhat Assembly constituency.
For Dergaon Assembly seat, Congress MLA Arati Hazarika Kachari, NCP�s Ajit Hazarika filed nominations today before the officer concerned of Jorhat administration while CPI (ML)�s Jiten Tanti and Independent candidates Jatin Saikia, Ranjan Jyoti Phukan and Gajanan Munda submitted their papers for Teok seat.
