The roads to be widened and developed are AT Road from Darika to Jaysagar (11.2 km) at a cost of Rs 15.48 crore, Dhai Ali (7 km) at Rs 8.23 crore, Dauki Ali (6.8 km) at 2.62 crore, Taxi Ali (3.5 km) at Rs 1.7 crore, Taimura Ali (2 km) Rs 1.03 crore, Bor Ali to NH-37 (2.2 km) Rs 1.9 crore, Pragati Point to Circuit House (2.8 km) Rs 2.83 crore, Desungmukh Ali (1 km) Rs 65.9 lakh, Desungmukh Ali from NH-37 (10 km) Rs 4.4 crore and Mankata Ali (2.2 km) Rs 99.9 crore.
For the 161.26-metre-long Sirpuria bridge the Minister said Rs 16 crore have been sanctioned presently and funds for the adjoining 6.1 km-long road was also sanctioned. The Minister laid the foundation stone of another 134.31 metre-long RCC bridge over the Dikhow at Boliaghat which will connect NH-37 with the historic Harmotigarh.
Addressing a public meeting at Darikapar, the Minister later said that the State government has unrolled a scheme Orunudoi, which has not been adopted anywhere else in India, extending a helping hand to every needy, deprived and exploited person. He said that historic Sivasagar town did not have an MLA from the party which had hit all development works. Sivasagar the erstwhile Rongpur the political, cultural and literary capital of Assam had been going down the ladder in the development index due to lack of a leader with a vision. A dynamic leader can make the town one of the finest tourism spots in the country, especially the square surrounding the historic Sivasagar tank and the beautiful douls on its bank which are of unique beauty, Dr Sarma said.
It may be mentioned here that Sivasagar LAC elected Pronob Gogoi of the Congress party, who died a couple of months back and whose tenure as the peoples representative is often said to be the most unproductive here. The Minister said that new roads and bridges will usher in a new era of development of the town.
The meeting was attended among others by Jogen Mohon, Minister for Disaster Management and PWD (State), Kamakhya Pd Tassa (MP Rajya Sabha), Kushal Duwori, MLA, Thowra, Navanita Handiqui, MLA, Sonari, Lakhinandan Gogoi, DC, Sivasagar, BJP leaders Bhaben Mohan, Surovi Rajkumari and PWD District Officers. The Minister visited the Tai museum and as there were no employees present at the time, the door lock had to be broken open before entering.
Earlier, the Minister told the media that we are not yet in a position to feel safe from COVID-19, though the trend is going down now but it may return with a second wave if the people overlook the health advisory during the coming Puja celebrations. Referring to involvement of political higher-ups in the SI scam, the Minister said that the State police will arrest anyone in course of the investigation if sufficient grounds are found.
The Minister also said that Assamese community in middle and lower Assam have been facing some very serious problems regarding observing their religious and cultural rights due to some religious groups which need to be given urgent attention now or never. He mentioned about forceful conversion which is assuming serious dimensions now. Receiving felicitations from teachers at Yuva Dal auditorium, Dr Sarma said that the present government has been constantly improving the working conditions for the teachers and solving their problems in phases.
