DOOMDOOMA, Nov 1 - The foundation stone of 119 high schools to be set up in tea garden areas of the state was laid today. In Doomdooma LAC area, the foundation stones of six high schools to be set up at Tara, Dohedaam, Tipuk, Bordubi, Koomsong and Diamoolie tea estates were laid by the MP of Lakhimpur Lok Sabha constituency Pradan Baruah in the presence of Doomdooma MLA Durga Bhumij.
Speaking on the occasion, MP Pradan Baruah said that these schools would become functional from the next academic session. In the first phase, six classrooms along with the headmaster�s office room, teachers� common room, toilets, boundary wall, entrance road to the school, etc., will be constructed by spending an amount of Rs 1,19,75,000/= by the PWD under the SOPD scheme (2020 - 2021) in each school.
Altogether, 16 such high schools have been sanctioned for Tinsukia district, of which six are to be set up in Doomdooma LAC , four in Tinsukia and two each in Digboi, Margherita and Sadiya LACs.
In Silchar: In the meantime, Forest and Environment Minister Parimal Suklabaidya today inaugurated the construction of two model schools which have been selected for construction at Borjelenga Tea Estate and Manierkhal Tea Estate in Dholai constituency, a press release stated
The state government has decided to construct and develop 119 model schools across the tea garden areas of Assam. This initiative will touch every part of the state having tea gardens.
Suklabaidya praised the initiative of the state Education Department for taking up the long-pending matter related to development of the tea tribes and implementing welfare projects for all-round growth and social uplift during the present regime.
