By Correspondent

NAGAON, June 14 The Deputy General Manager of the NF Railways, Niraj Kumar laid the foundation stone of the raising of the platform at the Nagaon railway station recently. Raising of the platform at the station is a long-standing demand of the people here. A number of organisations have time and again pressed for this demand.

A delegation of the Nagaon Senior Citizens Association met the higher authorities of the NF Railways recently and put forth this demand. The NF Railways deputed a technical body to Nagaon and asked it to submit a report.

On June 4, the DGM laid the foundation stone of raising the platform according to BG norms. Along with raising of the platform, a waiting room, toilet, drinking water facility and a passengers protection shed will also be constructed.

Niraj Kumar thanked the organisations for drawing the attention of the authority to the problems faced by the common man. He said that there is large-scale encroachment of railway land due to which the development works of the department are affected. The Railways have approached the district authority to get the lands vacated, but have failed to get a positive response from them, he said urging the Senior Citizens Association to take initiative to evict the encroachers from the railway land so that they can take up further development works for the people.

Bhupen Ch Das (vice-president), Sarat Ch Sharma (general secretary), Bharat Ch Goswami (treasurer), Mukul Saikia, Lalit Ch Dutta and others from the association besides members of other organisations were present at the function.
