Foundation stone of Asom Kesari�s statue laid

BARPETA, Oct 24 - The foundation stone for the statue of �Asom Kesari�, Ambikagiri Roychoudhury was laid at Barpetaroad in Barpeta district today. MLA of Sorbhog constituency and president of the state unit of the BJP, Ranjit Kumar Dass laid the foundation stone at Amtala in Batpetaroad.

Speaking on the occasion, Das proposed that the name Amtala should be changed and replaced with Ambikagiri point and requested the Municipality to take appropriate steps in this regard. Reciting Manuh Haba Lage Manuh, a poem by Ambikagiri Roychoudhury, Das commented that as people from various castes and religious beliefs have been living in Barpetaroad with unity and harmony for years together, the prefix Commercial Town before Barpetaroad should be replaced by Unity Town.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta, Thaneswar Malakar opined that all the roads and lanes of the towns of Barpeta district should be named after great personalities of the State.

Organised by the Ambikagiri Statue Construction Committee and conducted by professor Giridhari Das, the meeting was also attended by Sabita Deb Nath, chairperson of Barpetaroad Municipal Board, Phulen Das, vice-chairman of the Municipal Board, Sankar Das, social worker and several other dignitaries.
