MANGALDAI, Nov 14 - The much-needed permanent office building of Chapai Sahitya Sabha near Mangaldai, considered to be one of the active branches of Asam Sahitya Sabha, is going to be fulfilled as the family members of late mouzadar-cum-freedom fighter and architect of modern Chapai, Ananta Ram Choudhury have come forward with donations to construct it in his memory. In a brief but well-attended function, well-known lyricist, writer and composer mouzadar of Chapai mouza and eldest son of Ananta Ram Choudhury, Prabhat Narayan Choudhury recently laid the foundation stone of the proposed building to be completed at an estimated cost of Rs 4 lakh at the premises of a local socio-cultural organisation called Chapai Yuba Kalyan Kendra.
Sons and daughters of Ananta Ram Choudhury including writer and producer of documentary Minati Choudhury, poet and social activist Dr Mrinal Choudhury, Vice Principal of Sipajhar College Dr Tandrali Choudhury, family members namely, Bhabesh Narayan Choudhury, Associate Professor of Mangaldai College, Jeuti Choudhury and Mira Choudhury besides the leading citizens of the area and members of Asam Sahitya Sabha also took part in the foundation stone laying function anchored by president of Chapai Sahitya Sabha, Surya Sarma.
