GUWAHATI, Nov 5 Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi will lay the foundation stone of the proposed Rs 35 crore worth Central Library, Archive cum Auditorium at Amingaon on November 7.

There will be an archive and sufficient space for stacking of books. The auditorium will have capacity for 800 persons with separate waiting lounge for VIPs. The entire building will be fully air-conditioned and efforts have been made to incorporate the green building concept, it said.

The project has been awarded to city-based M/s Brahmaputra Infrastructure Ltd on turnkey design and construction basis. Guwahati is also becoming educational hub for the entire North East. The present District Library, situated in the Panbazar area of the city, is quite small, congested, and is insufficient to meet the readers' demand. The library was planned long back, and lacks the required infrastructure. The Central Library, Archive cum Auditorium has been conceptualized to meet the present demand, the statement said.

The project was conceptualized in three parts including a Central Library, an Archive for preservation with conference hall and an auditorium. The State Government has allotted 16 bighas of land for the project to develop in Amingaon, adjacent to the Kamrup Deputy Commissioner's Office.
