Foundation of 20 tea garden roads laid

DOOMDOOMA, March 4 - State Minister for PWD, Finance, Health and Family welfare etc., Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma today laid the foundation of 20 roads of 20 different tea gardens of Doomdooma LAC area at a function held at Beesakopie TE playground here.

Altogether twenty crore rupees have been sanctioned for these roads by the State government from its SOPD Fund 2018-2019. The minister also inaugurated the newly-launched schemes of the State government of free distribution of rice and LED bulbs to the tea labourers and distributed mobile handsets to the �Sardars� of the tea gardens here. Dr Sarma also distributed cheques to five other organisations and institutions of Doomdooma including Doomdooma Asomiya Puja Aru Natya Mandir and Bordubi High School.

Addressing the gathering on this occasion, Dr Sarma spoke about the work of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP-led governments at the Centre and in Assam.

The MP, Lakhimpur Lok Sabha constituency Pradan Baruah and Doomdooma MLA Durga Bhumij also addressed the gathering. Digboi MLA Suren Phukan and several other BJP leaders were present in the programme.

Meanwhile, the Doomdooma unit of the ATTSA handed over a memorandum to Dr Sarma demanding appointment of an adequate number of teachers in the tea garden schools, to upgrade the medical facilities of the tea garden hospitals and to set up a full-fledged degree college at Doomdooma immediately. Later, the minister went to Chapakhowa of Sadiya and laid the foundation of a bridge over the Kundil river.
