Foundation day of Kalang Kala Kendra

NAGAON, Jan 12 � The 13th foundation day of Kalang Kala Kendra was held on January 1 at the institution�s own premises at Puranigudam.

The open session was graced by three sisters of Dr Bhupen Hazarika, namely Sudakshina Sharma, Stuti Patel and Kabita Baruah. They recalled their interaction with Asam Ratna Bhupen Hazarika. The three sisters also presented some evergreen numbers of the immortal bard.

Well-known writer and editor of �Dr Bhupen Hazarika Rachanawali� also addressed the gathering and highlighted the manifold contributions of Dr Hazarika in the field of literature, art and culture.

At the beginning, well-known scholar Dr Paramananda Majumdar shed light on the works of Dr Hazarika and Jnanpith awardee Mamoni Raisom Goswami, who enriched the intellectual and cultural field of Assam.

The secretary of the Kala Kendra, Citta Ranjan Bara presented his annual report at the function. Writer Dr Rezaul Karim while addressing the audience recalled his personal experience with Mamoni Raisom Goswami. Group dance, chorus, solo songs, recitation etc were presented in the function.

The footprints of Dr Bhupen Hazarika and Mamoni Raisom Goswami which was preserved by Kalang Kala Kendra were also exhibited. The guests praised the different activities of Kalang Kala Kendra including their museums.

The day-long programme started with the hoisting of flag. The ashes of Dr Hazarika was immersed in river Kalang.

Six local mediapersons were felicitated in the function. Seeds were also distributed to cultivators at the function.
