AGARTALA, Feb 19 - Former Tripura Chief Secretary Yaspal Singh, who was arrested at Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh for his alleged involvement in a multi-crore-rupee PWD scam that rocked the State, was sent to four-day police remand after being produced before a special court here today.

The Crime Branch, which is investigating the scam, had sought ten-day remand for the former Chief Secretary, but Special Judge Sabyasachi Datta Purakayestha granted it only for four days.

After a 42-day operation, the Crime Branch could arrest Singh from Ghazibad on Monday. After securing transit remand from a local court in Ghaziabad, the former Chief Secretary was brought here this morning amid tight security. Later, he was produced before the Special Judge, seeking his remand for interrogation.

Earlier, the investigating agency had arrested former State PWD Minister Badal Chowdhury and ex-Chief Engineer Sunil Bhowmik in connection with the Rs 600-crore scam. Both of them are now out on bail.
