Former Ranji cricketer passes away

GUWAHATI, July 6 - Former Assam Ranji cricketer Anwar Hussain Hazarika, a resident of Rajabari, Jorhat passed away this morning at his residence at the age of 75.

Anwar Hussain represented the State Ranji team from 1965 to 1973 and also was a member of the East Zone team in the year 1973 which played against MCC at Jamshedpur. He had the distinction of scoring a century (120) on his debut Ranji match against Orissa at Cuttack.

A well-known social worker, he was closely associated with the Rajabari Club of Jorhat and extended his hand in organising sports in Jorhat. He leaves behind his wife and two sons. The Assam Cricket Association president Romen Dutta and secretary Devajit Saikia, on behalf of the organisation condoled the demise. The president and secretary of the Veteran Cricket Association of Assam also condoled the death of the former player.
