Former pm Manmohan Singh feted

NEW DELHI, June 27 - Former Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh on Wednesday said that whatever he did for Assam was his duty. Addressing a well-attended felicitation function organised by Assam Congress at the Constitution Club of India here last evening, Dr Singh recalled his 28-year-long association with Assam when he represented the State in the Rajya Sabha. At least 10 of those years, he was the Prime Minister of the country. The function was attended by senior Congress leaders, MPs and MLAs including former Congress president Sonia Gandhi, former Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi, PCC Ripun Bora, State Opposition leader Debabrata Saikia among others .

The former Prime Minister also praised Tarun Gogoi, who was the Chief Minister of Assam for 15 years. �Whenever history of Assam would be written, Tarun Gogoi�s rein will be written in golden letters,� Dr Singh, who was accompanied by his wife and two daughters, said. In his speech, Tarun Gogoi said that Assam�s economy was in a pathetic state, but Dr Singh helped a lot. He credited Dr Singh of helping him out. Dr Singh�s period when he took over as Prime Minister in 2008 can be described as a golden period, he claimed.
