Former PGSU president held in city blast case

GUWAHATI, May 28 - Police today arrested a former student leader of Gauhati University in connection with the recent grenade blast near the Guwahati Central mall, which left 12 people injured. Sanjib Talukdar, who is a former president of Post Graduate Students Union (PGSU), was arrested on charges of hobnobbing with ULFA militants. Talukdar (26) is currently pursuing PhD in botany from Gauhati University.

Police claimed that Talukdar, who hails from Baihata Chariali, was in constant touch with ULFA chief Paresh Baruah over phone and had even helped ULFA member and prime accused in the Guwahati blast case, Bijoy Asom, recee various locations in the city.

Bijoy Asom was recently arrested by police from Tinsukia district.

Upon being produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup (Metro), Talukdar was remanded in six-day police custody.

Chinmoy Lahkar, who was earlier arrested in the same case, was also reproduced before the court, which remanded him in four-day police custody.

The other accused � Indra Mohan Bora and Amrit Ballav Goswami � were sent to judicial custody.
