Former MLA passes away

DIBRUGARH, June 8 - Former MLA of Moran LAC, Kiron Kumar Gogoi passed away this morning at around 5:30 am in a private nursing home here following prolonged illness. He was 64.

He was elected as the MLA of Moran in 1985. Being affiliated to the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), he subscribed to the idea of regionalism. He played an active role during the Assam Agitation. He was also once the chairman of Assam Petrochemicals Limited, Namrup and president of the district unit of the AGP for two terms. Gogoi was associated with various other socio-cultural, sports and literary organisations during his heydays. He had also contributed to the Assam Sahitya Sabha as the district president of Dibrugarh unit.

On hearing the death of Kiron Kumar Gogoi, leaders from AGP, Asam Sahitya Sabha and several other organisations rushed to the nursing home to pay their last respect to the deceased as also to express solidarity with the bereaved family members.

He leaves behind his wife, two sons and a daughter.
