GUWAHATI, July 18 - Former Guwahati Mayor Sonadhar Das of Uzanbazar here expired on July 17 around 8.45 pm in New Delhi where he was being treated for heart related ailments. He was 78.
A popular person of the city, he was also the president of Bhaskar Natya Mandir, Uzanbazar.
Before the cremation, his body will be taken to his residence, Uzanbazar office of Guwahati Municipal Corporation, Bhaskar Natya Mandir and the Ambari headquarters of the Asom Gana Parishad, said senior AGP leader and former Minister Biraj Kumar Sarma.
AGP president Atul Bora and Biraj Kumar Sarma have mourned the death of Das and prayed for the eternal peace of his departed soul.
Das, who was a leading activist of the Assam agitation, later rose to the position of Mayor of the city, being elected to the GMC council on an Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) ticket from GMC Ward No 34.
Das leaves behind his wife, two sons and a host of relatives and admirers.
