SIVASAGAR, March 5 - Former MLA from Mahmora LAC and a veteran politician Khagen Gogoi died here at his Red Cross Road residence today. He was 92. Gogoi was a Congress MLA from the constituency when Sarat Sinha was the Chief Minister in 1972. He later joined the BJP in 1996 and rose to become a state vice president of the party.
Born to Hemchandra Gogoi and Gunada Gogoi in Bhadhora, Patsaku, Gogoi joined politics in his student age. He was president of District Congress Committee during the 70s and was associated with many socio-cultural works like setting up of the Sivasagar Commerce College, Doul Development Committee, District Library etc.
His demise was mourned by Sivasagar MLA Pronob Gogoi, Former Minister Sarat Borkotoky, Mahmora MLA Jogen Mohan, Dr Laksmanan S , DC Sivasagar, Surovi Rajkumari, president, District BJP committee and a host of other organisations.
