Former IPFT leader to support Congress

By Correspondent

AGARTALA, April 8 - Ananta Debbarma, who quit the IPFT two days back following a rift with party leaders NC Debbarma and Mever Kumar Jamatia, on Monday declared support to Congress candidates in the upcoming Parliamentary elections.

Congress State president Pradyot Kishore Debbarma welcomed the veteran tribal leader saying that more IPFT leaders are determined to switch over to Congress due to indifferent attitude of the party leaders after the Assembly elections.

I have decided to support Congress candidates in both Lok Sabha constituencies West and East on a four-point charter of demands rolling back of Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, direct funding to TTAADC and protection of rights of forest dwellers, he told the media.

Debbarma, who was one of the founder members of IPFT, alleged party supremo NC Debbarma has been sidelined within the party while Mever Kumar Jamatia and Mangal Debbarma have been dominating the partys policies.

They had strongly opposed Tripura bandh called in protest against the CAB, he said adding that IPFT leaders have forgotten partys main demand Tipraland after sharing power with BJP.
