Former international TT player passes away

GUWAHATI, Aug 29 - Former India No. 1 in the mini and sub-junior category, Nipjyoti Baruah passed away at the GMCH today due to COVID-19.

He was 46.

A leading table tennis player during the 1980s, Nipjyoti was champion in the Mini National TT Championship (Intab Cup).

He had the opportunity to represent the Indian team in the US Open, Asian Junior TT Championship apart from representing Assam in numerous national championships including National School Games. He was a senior official of the Coca Cola Company and was a resident of Chandmari area here.

He was admitted into GMCH yesterday and succumbed to the deadly disease. Nipjyoti leaves behind his wife and two sons.

The Assam Table Tennis Association and the TT fraternity condoled the untimely demise of the noted player.
