Former footballer Gum Bahadur Chetry dead

GUWAHATI, Aug 13 � Gum Bahadur Chetry, a former State Santosh Trophy player, died in a road accident at Azara last night.

Gum Bahadur had represented the Indian school team in the Asian School Football Championship and State Santosh Trophy team in the 90s and later joined NF Railway. Till last year, he was playing regularly for the NF Railway team and this year his name was registered with the Guwahati Sports Association as a member of the NR Railway Sports Club. A technically sound defender, Gum Bahadur also was a member of the Indian Railway football team.

The car which he was driving collided head on with a truck and he died on the spot.

His death has been condoled by the GSA, Assam Football Association, All Assam Football Players Association and Young Star Football Coaching Centre. NF Railway Sports Association in a condolence meeting in Maligaon today deeply mourned the death of Chetry. NFRSA president Alok Dave and secretary P Sivaram Prasad conveyed their condolences to the bereaved family members of the footballer.
