AIZAWL, Oct 5 - Lalrinliana Sailo, who recently resigned as a Congress MLA, today joined the Opposition Mizo National Front (MNF). Thousands of supporters thronged the MNF office as the three-time MLA was welcomed to the party fold.
Sailo cited non-fulfilment of the long-standing demand for upgrade of Khawzawl as a district, which covers his native Tuichang constituency, as the main reason for his resignation from the Congress.
Khawzawl is the largest town under the Tuichang constituency. The subdivisional town was upgraded to a district headquarters by the then MNF Government in 2008. But the next Congress Government in the State refused to go with the district status, citing financial constraints.
